Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation (Psico 1)
First, I want to introduce the main reason is so important this concept.
¿Why do we do the things we do? ¿What is it that drives our behaviours.?.
The extrinsic motivation occurs when are we motivated to perform a behaviour or engage in and activity to earn a reward or avoid punishment. The desire motivates the behaviour to gain a reward or avoid an adverse outcome.
And intrinsic motivation involves doing something because it's personally rewarding to you
When you're intrinsically motivated, your behaviour is motivated by your internal desire to do something for its own sake -- for example, your personal enjoyment of an activity, or your desire to learn a skill because you're eager to learn.
Now we talk about the relation between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation with tourism.
Before the tourists or the customers decide to do something like leisure activity or travel, they have a motivation. This motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic
Air bnb wants its workers to have a motivation because they think that if his employees are not motivated, the company will not work.
This company would like that the workers have an intrinsic motivation and if one day they need to do 30 minutes more than always they don´t have a problem about it. Always when the customers come to our hotel or our apartment we must be generous, polite, nice because they are so important for our company.
However, the extrinsic motivation happens for example when our boss come to you and say if you get to rent ten rooms in one weekend you will receive a work your way up to. In this case is extrinsic motivation because the worker know that he receives a reward.
On the other hand, I want to explain the relation between tourists and this kind of motivation.
If the travellers have an extrinsic motivation when they travel the main important things are the hotel or the conditions that they expect. For example, if family comes to an hotel and they expect to be a big room with tv, swimming pool, spa and a gift and they don’t receive they will be disappointed and they will never come back.
Despite if traveller with an intrinsic motivation they interest for travelling is different. Discover the culture of the city or country, go to new places, be relax, learn a new language. They don’t intend to receive more than the basic things provided by hotels in general.
